Newspapers

gazety1Most daily papers are printed in the evening and at night. Weekly and evening papers, free papers and supplements of the retail trade which can be printed on rotary presses, use the capacities during the day.
Daily newspapers must be up to the minute. Therefore the copy deadline is postponed as far as possible. Little time remains for the pressroom and the operations in the finishing area – the papers are also dispatched from this area. Because of the especially high working speed and reliability necessary, newspaper bundling is one of the most demanding tasks of strapping techniques.
All "standard bundles" are identical in size. As a result, work becomes easier. Only the individual "odd bundles" are of different heights.
The copy stream of newspapers is stacked by the "compensating stacker". Depending on the kind of stacks (e.g. small-format and high, large amount of supplements), at this point it could be useful, to attach the first strap in order to stabilise the stack. Normally the stacks are first wrapped in film and then strapped twice. Newspaper printers use tandem machines and the bundles are usually strapped crosswise. The "standard bundles" weight about 8 to 12 kg.
